Soft pastels are "chalk like" sticks of different colors.  These pastels produce rich, vivid color and a velvety soft texture.  It is this soft texture that makes them the ideal medium for painting animals with fur and feathers. Soft pastels painted on velor paper create a touchably soft look that cannot be achieved with any other medium.  Due to their soft nature, pastels produce some dust when used.  Completed works should be handled carefully and only professionally framed by experienced soft pastel framers.
